EN NOMINATION POUR LE PRIX BORÉAL - CRÉATION ARTISTIQUE AUDIOVISUELLE 2011 / NOMINATED FOR THE BORÉAL AWARD - VISUAL ARTS CREATION 2011

Tiens ! Me voilà en nomination pour un PRIX BORÉAL ! Rigolo ! Une grande surprise pour moi... C'est la première fois. Bon, ça me fait un petit velours mais, sérieusement, je ne crois pas avoir beaucoup de chances de gagner car il y a vraiment du beau linge en compétition. C'est le 15 mai prochain, en après-midi à la toute fin du CONGRÈS BORÉAL qui se tiendra à Montréal, que les lauréats seront connus. Voici les deux illustrations qui m'ont valu cette nomination : la première pour le numéro 27 de la revue BRINS D'ÉTERNITÉ et la seconde pour le numéro 5 de la revue NEXUZ3. Comme ça, vous aurez une idée plus juste de la qualité et de la valeur de mon travail artistique... Inutile d'ajouter que tous ceux qui voteront pour moi feront preuve d'un goût exquis !

I have the chance to be nominated for the BORÉAL AWARD for two of my science-fiction illustrations published on the covers of the Québec scifi magazines BRINS D'ÉTERNITÉ (issue 27) and NEXUZ3 (issue 5). The winners will be known on Sunday the 15th of May at the end of the CONGRÈS BORÉAL in Montréal.

De retour du XXIV^E FESTIVAL DE LA BANDE DESSINÉE FRANCOPHONE DE QUÉBEC, un peu épuisé mais totalement satisfait du succès d'affluence récolté par le kiosque 811 de l'éditeur MOELLE GRAPHIQUE. Sur la photo prise par Danny Gagnon, on peut nous apercevoir en pleine action, mon collègue GAG (André Gagnon) et moi, devant la foule médusée et admirative regardant nos prouesses de caricaturistes en direct. La caricature en direct est une activité toujours aussi populaire auprès des enfants et des adultes.

La vente des merveilleux albums reliés à la main de Julien Poitras a aussi été un succès, notamment l'album de « comic strips » humoristiques sur le monde hospitalier québécois STAT réalisé par le talentueux tandem formé par le Docteur François Paquet (scénariste) et l'infirmier Yves Lessard (dessinateur). Les autres nouveaux albums présentés pour la première fois au public étaient IMAGES EN STOCK de Benoît Joly, L'HOMME AUX GRAFFITIS d'André-Philippe Côté et J'AIME SARAH de Danny Gagnon (albums toujours disponibles via le site MOELLE GRAPHIQUE).

Back from XXIV^E FESTIVAL OF THE FRANCOPHONE COMIC ART IN QUÉBEC CITY, a little bit exhausted but totally satisfied with the success of crowds gathered by the booth 811 of the publisher GRAPHIC MARROW. In the photo taken by Danny Gagnon, one can see us in action, my colleague GAG (André Gagnon) and me, in front of the stunned crowd watching and admiring our cartoonists live prowess. Live caricature is an activity still popular with children and adults.

The sale of the beautiful hand-bound comic albums of Julien Poitras was also a success, including the album of humorous comic strips on the Québec hospital STAT realized by the talented duo formed by Dr. François Paquet (script) and the male nurse Yves Lessard (drawings). Other new comic albums presented for the first time to the public were IMAGES EN STOCK (IMAGES IN STOCK) from Benoît Joly, L'HOMME AUX GRAFFITIS (THE MAN WITH GRAFFITI) from André-Philippe Côté and J'AIME SARAH (I LOVE SARAH) from Danny Gagnon (comic albums still available through the website GRAPHIC MARROW).

Comme l'an dernier (photo), je serai au kiosque 811 de l'éditeur MOELLE GRAPHIQUE pendant toute la durée du XXIV^E FESTIVAL DE LA BANDE DESSINÉE FRANCOPHONE DE QUÉBEC, qui est intégré depuis quelques années au SALON INTERNATIONAL DU LIVRE (de la même ville !). J'y réaliserai des caricatures en direct, une activité qui avait été extrêmement populaire en 2010 surtout auprès des jeunes visiteurs du Salon. Si le coeur vous en dit, n'hésitez pas à solliciter mes services, ça vous fera un excellent souvenir du Salon 2011.

As the last year (photo), I'll be at the booth 811 of the publisher GRAPHIC MARROW for the duration of the XXIV^TH FESTIVAL OF THE FRANCOPHONE COMIC ART IN QUÉBEC CITY, which is integrated since recent years at the INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR (in the same city !). I will realize live caricatures, an activity that was extremely popular in 2010, especially among young visitors to the show. If you feel like it, do not hesitate to seek my services, it will make an excellent souvenir of the Exhibition 2011.

Illustration de la nouvelle de Prune Matéo intitulée Tharsis publiée en juillet 2010. Un texte intéressant, bien écrit mais qui n'a pas fait surgir d'images fortes dans ma tête, occasionnant quelques difficultés pour trouver une idée pour réaliser l'illustration. J'en ai profité pour me donner quelques défis jamais réalisés encore par moi : une perspective de lit avec un personnage masculin qui s'éveille soudainement vu de dos, et la multiplication toute digitale du personnage féminin, ceci simulant l'hallucination de l'ouverture brusque des lumières... Je suis quand même assez satisfait du résultat.
